Kubb is the Viking lawn game: throw wooden batons to knock your opponent's blocks (the kubbs) over, then topple the king in the middle to win. Here's a whole game, start to finish.
The rules, in five steps
-
Win the toss. Every game starts with a toss. Get your baton as close to the king as you can without knocking it over. Closest wins, and the winner picks who throws first.
-
Take aim. Drag back anywhere to aim. The guide shows where it'll go, and the farther you pull, the harder you throw. Tap Throw and let it fly.
-
Clear the kubbs, in order. Knock down the field kubbs (the ones out in your opponent's half) before the back line. Topple the king while a single kubb is still standing and you lose on the spot, so save it for last.
-
Throw the fallen kubbs back. A knocked-over kubb isn't out. You throw it back onto your opponent's half, where it stands wherever it lands. Miss the half twice and they get a free kubb, closer in.
-
Topple the king. Once every one of their kubbs is down, the king's fair game. Knock it over and you've won.
New to Kubb?
Don't worry about remembering all this. A quick tip pops up the first time each part of a game comes up: the toss, the attack, the throw-in, the king. Turn it off whenever you like, from the tip itself ("Skip tutorial") or the Help screen ("Coach me during play"), and replay the full walkthrough any time.
